My name is Brenda Streett, the owner of Breath of Salt and I suffer from asthma, chronic bronchitis and COPD. I was taking so much medication, which negatively affected my kidneys and liver. A friend at work urged me to try visiting a salt spa to improve my condition because nothing else was working. After doing some research and talking with my doctor, together we decided there was nothing in Salt therapy to hurt me, so, I decided to try the salt therapy.
For more than a year, I drove over 300 miles every weekend to visit a salt spa in Ashville, North Carolina. After my first session I was able to take a deep breath for the first time in many years! I knew I was on to something good and each time I went my breathing was better and my coughing became less and less. Eventually as I felt so much better, I was able to stop using my oxygen tank and so many antibiotics were not necessary anymore. I was able to stop taking the medication after some months. I was under constant supervision of my doctor while making this transition.
I knew there were many people in South Carolina who suffer with the same respiratory diseases I did and I wanted to help them just as I had been helped. I retired from my job and opened Breath of Salt in Cayce, South Carolina.
I cannot tell you that Halo Therapy will heal you but I can tell you it will lessen the severity of your symptoms so that so much medicine is not necessary. I can also tell you it is the most relaxing thing I have ever tried.
What Is Halotherapy – Salt Therapy?
What Is Halotherapy – Salt Therapy?
There is a lot of misunderstanding surrounding salt therapy because it is not a regulated term. The name could be used for anything related to salt as health support, such as gargling, drinking, bathing and breathing.
Halotherapy or dry salt therapy is a more accurate term for the treatment. It means breathing a negative ion-rich dry salt microclimate just like being in a natural salt mine. Halotherapy is a natural, safe, and non-invasive alternative or complimentry therapy. It is also very relaxing.
Since the early 1800s, Europeans complaining about respiratory problems find great relief when inside salt mines. In the 1980s, some European physicians desired to study the micro-climate of natural salt mines. They hoped to recreate the same type of air above the ground. Therefore, doctors and scientists began analyzing the air of different natural salt mines.

In all mines, they found a therapeutic saturation of dry salt particles (1-5 microns in size), which can reach the lower respiratory system. These were also abundant in negative ions.
Based on their findings, the physicians recreated the negative ion-rich salt microclimate as close as possible by building a device called the Halogenerator (salt mill). It produces breathable dry salt particles. The therapy was then called halotherapy.
Halotherapy is the only evidence-based, scientifically, and professionally developed a method of salt therapy based on studies of natural salt mines. In Europe, it is used in the medical field as well as in the spa industry. Now, halotherapy spas are becoming favored around the world.
